On May 29, 2026, Vought’s OMB released a proposed rule that would restructure the federal grant making system to give political appointees total control over every federal grant. Political appointees could hold up or cancel programs based on partisan political beliefs. Ideologues could override federal scientists on research grants. Cronies with corporate interests could shutdown programs to line their own pockets.
